We cannot recommend Darren and Costel enough as wedding photographers. Complete professionals who, to our relief, took a more relaxed approach with capturing our day while getting the shots we wanted, posed and candid. They put us at ease throughout the day and are a genuinely down-to-earth, easy-going pair. We received our previews the following day, and they were incredible. We can't wait to receive the full album in a few weeks.
Tucked along the shores of Ullswater, Inn on the Lake is one of those venues that never stops impressing us. We’ve photographed several weddings here over the years, and every single time we arrive, it takes our breath away — even if the skies are a little moody (which, if we’re being honest, they often are!).
There’s actually a bit of a running joke between us and the Inn — the weather always seems to put on a dramatic show when we’re there. But far from being a problem, it’s something we’ve come to embrace. Those rolling clouds over the lake, the mist hanging on the fells, the sudden bursts of light breaking through — it’s cinematic, romantic, and pure Lake District. And most importantly, we come prepared. Whether it’s umbrellas, quick location pivots, or finding perfect light indoors, we know how to adapt so you still get beautiful, natural images no matter what the forecast throws at us.
The team at Inn on the Lake are a huge part of what makes it such a joy to work at. They’re always welcoming, professional, and brilliantly organised — which makes a big difference behind the scenes. A special mention goes to Jonathon, who is consistently fantastic and goes above and beyond to make sure the day runs smoothly for everyone, including us as photographers.
Inn on the Lake weddings are about elegance with a touch of the wild. The hotel itself is stylish and welcoming, with beautiful rooms for both ceremonies and receptions, while the gardens stretch right down to the lakeshore. It’s one of the few venues where you can have your ceremony outside with the lake quite literally at your feet — something that makes for an unforgettable moment (and a brilliant backdrop for photos).
We especially love sneaking away with couples for a few quiet portraits by the jetty or in the woodland walkways just behind the hotel. Even just five minutes away from the buzz of the day gives you time to catch your breath, and those photos — wind in your hair, Ullswater behind you, wrapped up in the moment — are often the ones couples treasure most.
As Inn on the Lake wedding photographers, we’ve seen this venue in all its moods — sun-drenched, rain-soaked, windswept — and we know how to make each one work. We don’t stage or over-direct. We just gently guide when needed, then stand back and let the story unfold.
